Non Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease Is In The Family

Family members of children diagnosed with non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) should be considered at high risk for the disease and tested for it as part of a routine medical examination, even if they don't show symptoms, according to a recent study by researchers at the University of California, San Diego School of Medicine. The results will be published in the May edition of the journal Gastroenterology.

Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (Cot Death) Associated With New Virus - Ljungan Virus

Ljungan virus, transmitted from animals to humans, has been found in 11 of 12 cases of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome or SIDS. Investigators from Sweden and the USA present these findings in the scientific journal Forensic Science in Medicine and Pathology. Animals infected with the virus suffer from a similar disease. Population cycles of wild rodents carrying Ljungan virus correlate with the frequency of SIDS cases.

Metoclopramide, a drug approved in the U.S. for nausea, vomiting and heartburn poses no significant risks for the fetus according to a large cohort study published in the June 11 issue of the prestigious New England Journal of Medicine, "The Safety of Metoclopramide Use in the First Trimester of Pregnancy" (N Engl J Med 2009;360:24 June 11, 2009).
